Jack Williams Toboggan Chute
The Jack Williams Toboggan Chute is a 400-foot-long handmade wooden trough, flooded with ice, with an outrun at the end onto Hosmer Pond. The chute was built by volunteers in 1936, when there was no road to the Snow Bowl and donated materials went over on small boats. The chute has been partially rebuilt several times, but original supporting timbers remain in place.
For the 2026 season the goal (conditions permitting) is to open the toboggan chute in February after the U.S. Toboggan National Championships (Feb. 6-8).
- Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (conditions permitting)
- No Snow Bowl Card/RFID card required, and tickets are only sold at the Snow Bowl (not available online). Visit camdensnowbowl.com for more information.
- Participants must be at least 5 years old; anyone under 12 must ride with an adult.
- Conditions must be safe to open the chute (adequate ice thickness in the chute and on Hosmer Pond), so if you are planning a trip, call ahead or check the conditions.
- Toboggans are provided for a maximum of four riders per toboggan.
- Chute is closed to the public during the annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships, but spectating is encouraged!
- Wear old clothes that are not too bulky. The toboggans move quickly, and clothing can be damaged by contact with the sides of the chute. No exposed skin is allowed—gloves or mittens are a must. Helmets and face coverings are also strongly recommended.
